China’s rubber, tire trade shows mixed trends in August

Imports of natural, synthetic rubber rise sharply, while tire export volumes show modest growth
Beijing – China’s rubber imports and tire exports showed mixed trends in August, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China on 8 September.
The country imported a total of 664,000 tonnes of natural and synthetic rubber, including latex, in August, up 7.8% from 616,000 tonnes in the same month of 2024.
From January to August, cumulative imports reached 5.37 million tonnes, a 19% increase from 4.51 million tonnes in the same period of 2024.
In the tire sector, China exported 870,000 tonnes of rubber tires in August, a 2.6% rise year-on-year, slightly down from July.
New pneumatic tires accounted for 840,000 tonnes, up 2.3% from August 2024, with volumes up 1.9% year-on-year at 63.01 million units.
The total export value for the month was just under 15 billion (€1.8 billion), down 0.4% year-on-year, indicating some pressure on unit prices.
From January to August, cumulative tire exports was up 5.1% year-on-year at 6.5 million tonnes, representing 6.26 million tonnes of new pneumatic tires.
By units, 478.6 million tires were exported in the first eight months, a 5.6% increase from the same period of 2024.
