Buyer described as “a major industrial player that has a significant presence in global chemicals industry”
Oslo – Elkem ASA has entered an “exclusive sales process” with an undisclosed counterparty to divest its silicones business, as signalled earlier in January. (ERJ report)
“Following an evaluation of alternative options, the company has decided to pursue exclusive negotiations with a major industrial player that has a significant presence in the global chemicals industry,” said Elkem 18 Sept.
The company did not provide further details about the prospective buyer.
Subject to negotiations, agreement and necessary approvals, the closing of the transaction is expected in the first half of 2026.
In its statement, Elkem said the potential transaction “would represent the best possible outcome” for its silicones division as well as the company and all its stakeholders.
The Norwegian supplier expects the divestment to enable allocation of capital to accelerate growth in its silicon products and carbon solutions divisions.
ABG Sundal Collier ASA is acting as financial advisor to Elkem.
