Co-developed with Bosch, system enables addition of integrated functionalities into vehicle’s electronic control systems
Milan, Italy – Pirelli and Aston Martin have agreed to collaborate on the integration of Pirelli’s ‘cyber tire’ technology into the British luxury performance brand’s future vehicles.
The technology collects data from tire sensors, processes the information with Pirelli’s proprietary software and communicates with the vehicle’s electronics in real-time, the tire maker announced 11 Sept.
Developed in collaboration with Bosch Engineering (ERJ report), the technology can be fully integrated within the electronic architecture that controls vehicle dynamics in future Aston Martin models.
The cyber tire features sensors in the inner part of the tread and transmits data to an electronic control unit which, Pirelli said, “optimises the vehicle’s dynamics.”
“This way the main electronic dynamic driving systems performance - including ESP, ABS and traction control - are enhanced by a comprehensive set of tire data not previously available,” Pirelli concluded.
