Proposals by Slovenia, Sweden raise concern over 'organ toxicity’ after repeated exposure
Helsinki – The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has launched a consultation process for a number of substance to be included as substances of very high concern (SVHC) under REACH.
The proposed list includes n-hexane, with application as a processing solvent in the rubber industry, as well as 4,4'-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]diphenol (Bisphenol AF), and its salts and 4,4'-methylenediphenol, which can be used to improve properties of rubber.
The proposal to add n-hexane to the candidate list was put forward by Slovenia and argued that the chemical could cause "specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure."
Sweden proposed the other two substances as possibly having toxic effects on reproductive organs.
The consultation process was launched 1 Sept and is open until 16 Oct.
