Subsidiary Tengzhou Eastern Steel Cord starts expansion project in Shandong province
Tengzhou, China – Tengzhou Eastern Steel Cord Co. (TESC) has broken ground on a 30 kilotonne per annum (ktpa) steel tire cord expansion project in Tengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, in the eastern Chinese Shandong province.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-based tire cord maker Shoujia Technology Group, TESC will produce “internationally recognised, high-quality, ultra-high-strength steel cord products,” said the company 25 Aug.
The project will apply “advanced metal deformation and coating technologies”, enabling output of more than 100 specifications upon completion.
Set for operation in 2026, the project will "produce high-strength, recyclable steel cord," and aims to integrate green development concepts.
Once fully operational, the new capacity will generate an additional revenue of Yuan300 million (€36 million) per annum.
Products are targeted at domestic and export markets, with the company supplying to over 60 customers in the US, Germany, Poland and other regions.
According to the report, TESC is a supplier to major global tire makers, including Goodyear, Bridgestone and Michelin.
Operational since 2008, TESC completed a major expansion project in 2023 to add 12 new production lines and double its steel tire cord capacity to 200ktpa.
At the time, the company said the additional capacity would increase its revenue by Yuan1.1 billion, and creating 1,300 new jobs.
Parent group Shoujia Technology has also been pursuing overseas growth in recent months, with officials from the group visting Romania for a potential European production base earlier this year. (ERJ report)
