Sailun New Peace to produce 3.3m truck & bus tires, 20ktpa of off-highway tires
Shenyang, China – Chinese tire maker Sailun Group has outlined plans for the recently acquired Bridgestone truck and bus tire factory in Shenyang, China.
In a 26 Aug stock exchange filing, the group introduced ‘Sailun New Peace (Shenyang) Tire Co.’ project to be completed between 2025 and 2027.
Sailun has earmarked Yuan1.7 billion (€203 million) for the project, which will see the facility upgraded to produce 3.3 million all-steel radial truck & bus tires and 20,000 tonnes of off-highway tires per year.
The Chinese group cited high demand in the emerging markets as well as a 6.4% increase in demand for medium and heavy-duty commercial tires in China in 2024 as the reasons behind the investment.
Sailun acquired the former Bridgestone manufacturing plant in Shenyang for Yuan265 million (€31 million) in July.
The 10-year-old facility was idled at the end of 2023 as Bridgestone exited the TBR business in China.
At the time of purchase, Sailun said the unit had an annual capacity of 1.7 million radial truck and bus tires and featured 394,900 sq.m. of land and 200,700 sq.m. of buildings.
