Sandstone tire project in Yanbu to produce 5 million units of tires per annum
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia has launched a project to produce 5 million units of tires/year by 2028, using technology to be provided by an unnamed Chinese partner.
In a 26 Aug ceremony in Jeddah, Saudi Green Sea Co. said it intended to build the factory also in partnership with petrochemicals major Sabic, which will supply raw materials.
Construction work on the Sandstone project will begin in 2025 and will take 30 months, with production set for end of 2028, a statement from Saudi Green Sea added.
Spanning 362,000m2, the unit is designed to produce 2.5 million units of small and medium-sized passenger car tires and 2.5 million units of truck and military vehicle tires a year.
According to its website, Sandstone will ‘significantly reduce’ reliance on imported tires in Saudi Arabia, while driving economic growth and sustainable employment.
The project, it added, will leverage "proven Chinese expertise into the Saudi market, thereby enhancing technological innovation and operational efficiency."
Financial details of the project were not disclosed.
