First of five pyrolysis reactors delivered to tire recycling plant in Uddevalla
Malmo, Sweden – Scandinavian Enviro Systems has started the installation of pyrolysis reactors at its joint venture end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis plant under construction in Uddevalla, Sweden.
The company has received the first of five pyrolysis reactors for the plant according to schedule and the remaining four will be delivered on an ongoing basis before the end of September, said Enviro 26 Aug.
“The reactors are the heart of Enviro’s leading pyrolysis technology and… we are taking a significant and important step in completing the first full-scale recycling facility,” said CEO Fredrik Emilson.
In addition, the conveyor belt for tire shreds has also been installed at the site.
The belt will connect the storage area for tire shreds from discarded tires with the process hall where the reactors are located.
The shredded tires, which are sourced externally and constitute the raw material for Enviro’s recycling process, will be fed into the reactors via the conveyor belt.
With the installation of the belt, Emilson said “we are now truly connecting the process and beginning to see the entire flow take shape at the site.”
The Uddevalla facility is the first of large-scale ELT pyrolysis factories planned under the Infiniteria joint venture company with Michelin and French infrastructure investor Antin.
The facility has a design capacity to recycle 34.5 kilotonnes per annum of waste tires, equal to 40% of the annual ELT arisings in Sweden.
Enviro says it has already signed long-term binding agreements for the delivery of recovered carbon black and oil from the plant valued at SEK2 billion (€170 million).
Formed in March 2023, the Infiniteria JV plans to construct ELT recycling units across Europe with a total processing capacity of 1 million tonnes by 2030.
