Initiative, also involving WWF, explores forest conservation, ESG goals, and processing standards
Haikou, China – IKEA Group is exploring more sustainable sourcing of rubber wood products in China through new talks with Hainan Rubber and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The three parties met in Haikou on 9 July to discuss sustainable development of the natural rubber (NR) industry, supply chain cooperation, and coordination on overseas plantation projects.
In an 11 July release, Hainan Rubber said the IKEA team held detailed discussions on processing and certification of rubber wood products that meet environmental standards.
The goal, it said, is to “improve supply chain value while supporting ecological protection.”
WWF, meanwhile, introduced its global strategy and project progress in China, with a focus on forest landscape restoration and sustainable supply chains.
The meeting covered issues such as balancing agriculture with environmental conservation, sustainable industry chain development, and joint work on projects in Africa.
Hainan Rubber described the meeting as “laying a foundation for deeper collaboration" with WWF and IKEA on ESG systems, sustainable development goals, and overseas plantation initiatives.
The company said it aims to expand its industrial chain while contributing to stable NR supplies and promoting greener production standards.
