Acquisition to strengthen Engel’s direct presence in southern Europe
Barcelona, Spain – Injection moulding machinery maker Engel is planning to acquire its long-standing Spanish partner Roegele as of 1 April 2026, establishing the new subsidiary Engel Spain.
Barcelona-based Roegele has represented Engel since 1972, managing sales, service, training, and consultancy, with over 90% of its business involving Engel products, Engel said 14 May.
The move follows the planned retirement of owners Bernd and Kai Roegele, providing a “sustainable succession solution.”
According to the Austrian machinery maker, Spain is one of Europe’s largest plastics markets by volume and revenue.
The company said it has a strong position in Spain’s automotive sector and sees growth potential in packaging, medical, and technical moulding applications.
“We see considerable potential in Spain – not only in packaging but also in technical injection moulding,” said group CEO Stefan Engleder.
With the base in Spain, he added, Engel is creating the conditions to expand into new customer segments, enhance service responsiveness, and strengthen market position in the long term.
Engel Spain will operate as an independent subsidiary within the global Engel Group. All Roegele employees will be retained under the new structure.
The Barcelona facility, currently Roegele’s headquarters, will be upgraded to support future development.
The site includes a 600 sq.m. production area, which Engel said provides enough flexibility for a range of uses.
