Italian machinery maker expands R&D centre with new calendering, mixing units
Milan, Italy – Comerio Ercole has celebrated its 140th anniversary with the expansion of its R&D operations and technological advances at its main production site in Busto Arsizio, near Milan.
The Italian polymer processing machinery maker opened its doors to institutions and stakeholders for a special celebration, said the company in an announcement.
During the event, the companied launched its new “universal Industry 5.0 manufacturing centre”, designed to work on digital integration and human-machine collaboration.
Furthermore, the machinery maker expanded its R&D technology centre, which includes two laboratories for calendering and mixing processes.
Additions included a 'next-generation' mixer and a calendering unit equipped with an advanced longitudinal stretching system for thin films.
The main lab now functions as a fully reconfigurable “mini-factory,” featuring a 4-roll calendering line adaptable to 3 or 5 rolls and a dual feeding system.
The lab can support both extrusion and traditional mill feeding and is now enhanced with an internal mixer.
The second lab is designed for “embossing processes” on films and nonwovens, offering up to 100 pattern variations to meet diverse application needs across industries.
“These investments reinforce Comerio Ercole’s R&D capabilities, enabling the company to support customers not only in process optimisation but also throughout the patent development phase,” said the machinery maker.
To commemorate the anniversary, the company also released a 272-page book capturing the journey of its 140-year legacy, complete with historical anecdotes and human stories.
