One-day conference in Manchester to focus on advanced materials and processing techniques
London – The next IOM3 Elastomer Group technical discussion event will explore current innovations in high performance elastomer processes and applications.
Organised in collaboration with the Manchester Polymer Group, the one-day in-person conference will take place 12 June at the Manchester Conference Centre.
Titled Current innovations in high performance elastomer processes and applications, the meeting will focus on advances in materials and processing across a range of elastomer technologies.
Confirmed presentations include:
Sustainable manufacturing and performance control of bio-based thermoplastic elastomers – Dr Sungkwon Yoon, Queens University Belfast
Mechanochemistry – The change of chemistry through the application of mechanical energy – David Brown, Gradient Compounds
Thermally conductive HCR silicones for thermal interface applications – Sammi Hassan and Muhammad Saeed, Fenner Precision
Understanding rubber-filler interactions in devulcanised and revulcanised rubber – Rob Innes, University of Bradford
Paraphenylene diamines: A change in the rubber industry landscape – Gary Crutchley, Smithers
Fire retardant butyl rubber for CBRN applications – Paul Marchant, Avon Protection
The use of chemical inhibitors to recycle crosslinked carbon black filled elastomers – Thomas Griggs, Queen Mary University of London.
The Elastomer Group’s most recent afternoon technical discussion meeting (ATDM), on the theme of ‘elastomers in the energy transition’, took place on 31 March at IOM3 headquarters in London. Speakers from Scania, SINTEF, Zeon, Wave Energy Scotland and TWI contributed to the session.
The next ATDM, on 'Sustainable fillers for elastomers', will be held at the London IOM3 base on 26 Sept. followed by one focused on 'Challenges in the elastomer industry' at the same venue on 19 Dec.
Looking ahead, the Elastomer Group is also contributing to a joint session on bio-sourced polymer materials at the M3P3 conference, to be held 11–12 Nov at Millennium Point, Birmingham, UK.
The session is being organised in collaboration with the IOM3 Polymer, Packaging and Natural Materials groups.
In 2026, the Elastomer Group will host the 14th European conference on constitutive models for rubber (ECCMR), to take place 9–11 Sept in Oxford.
The group also supports the following IRCO-affiliated global conferences: RubberCon 2025, Stockholm, Sweden (9–11 Sept); RubberCon 2026, Paris, France (28–29 April); IRC 2025, Bangkok, Thailand (1–3 Dec) and IRC 2026, Nagoya, Japan (2–6 Nov).
