Tokyo – Japanese trading group Sojitz Corp. is acquiring a 66.5% stake in Nippon A&L Inc., a producer of SBR latexes and ABS resins.
Nippon A&L was founded in 1999 by Sumitomo Chemical and Mitsui Chemicals in Osaka and supplies SBR latex for lithium-ion battery anode binders and paper processing.
Under the 15 May agreement, Sojitz is expected to complete the share acquisition in July, making Nippon A&L a consolidated subsidiary.
The three companies did not provide further information about the ownership structure post-transaction.
The deal is part of Sumitomo Chemical’s ongoing business portfolio upgrade while Mitsui Chemicals’ decision aligns with its Vision 2030 goal of building a global speciality and sustainable chemicals business.
Sojitz aims to expand its energy and materials business under its medium-term management plan 2026.
The company intends to strengthen Nippon A&L’s business using its global network, market knowledge, and experience in the lithium-ion battery sector.
