Greek partner Thermo Lysi awards engineering contract to build facility in Livanates
Dillingen/Saar, Germany – Pyrum Innovations AG has progressed an end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis project in Greece after securing construction permit in early January.
The German recycler has signed a €2.2 million engineering contract with Greek partner Thermo Lysi SA for the detailed design of an ELT recycling plant at Thermo Lysi’s facility in Livanates, about 140 km north of Athens.
In a 19 May statement, Pyrum said it will begin detailed engineering work immediately, with the process expected to take six months.
In parallel, Thermo Lysi will pursue financing discussions, including talks regarding EU funding to help cover part of the project’s costs.
The companies have agreed to begin engineering work before the financing is finalised to meet project targets.
Once the engineering phase is complete, Greek construction firm Archirodon will adapt the documentation to local legal requirements.
As previously reported by ERJ, the joint project is the first Pyrum plant outside Germany and will have the capacity to process 20,000 tonnes of ELT per year.
The unit is expected to recycle “almost half” of the annual volume of ELT arisings in Greece.
Pyrum planns to acquire a 15% equity stake in the project company.
