Hungary plant to absorb output from Dutch facility, which is set to close in 2026
Gurugram, India – Apollo Tyres Ltd has unveiled plans to invest INR15 billion (€157 million) during its 2026 fiscal year to expand production capacity across operations in India and Europe.
The investment will fund the addition of capacity for 4,000 passenger car tires per day at its Gyongyoshalasz facility in Hungary, said CFO Gaurav Kumar in a 15 May earnings call.
A similar expansion is also planned at Apollo's Chinnapandur plant in Andhra Pradesh, India, explained Kumar.
The project in Hungary is expected to be completed by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026, enabling the facility to absorb production from the Apollo plant in Enschede, The Netherlands, which is scheduled to close that year.
Kumar noted that the Dutch facility currently produces around 500,000 tires annually – less than 10% of the 6 million units per year capacity at the Hungarian site.
The shift will allow Apollo to consolidate operations between Hungary and India following the Dutch closure, he added.
Apollo said in late April that it had started talks with trade unions and the works council to discontinue tire production and related activities in Enschede by summer 2026.
According to Kumar, discussions are ongoing and there have been no changes to utilisation at the site so far.
