Collaboration with oeko energie will see two companies ‘share and purchase’ green power on free market
Schattdorf, Switzerland – Datwyler and Swiss sustainable energy company oeko energie AG have entered an agreement for the supply and purchase of green energy.
As part of the deal, Datwyler’s seals manufacturing plant in Schattdorf has joined oeko energie’s “self-consumption network”, announced the rubber-based products maker.
Under the arrangement, said the Swiss group, the two companies will share their eco-friendly electricity and to purchase additional electricity on the free market.
According to Datwyler, "substantial amounts" of renewable energy are generated as part of this network, helping to relieve the burden on the local electrical grid."
Photovoltaic (PV) systems on the roofs of the participating companies together generate around 1.7 million kWh of electricity per year which is fed into the public grid at peak times.
According to Datwyler, it has planned an expansion of the PV systems on the facade of its Swiss plant to support renewable energy production.
Additionally, the group has recently started up a combined heat and power plant, producing around 3 million kWh of electricity and 5 million kWh of heat annually using wood-pellet fuel.
The energy is then converted into electricity and used mostly in the company’s own operations, while the heat generated during the process is transferred entirely to a district heating network.
