Swiss group to start production of liquid silicone rubber components in Wuxi early next year
Schattdorf, Switzerland – Datwyler AG is expanding its capabilities in China with the addition of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) technology at its manufacturing site in Wuxi, Jiangsu.
The move will support the mobility sector in China and wider Asia as the automotive industry moves towards electrification and greater autonomy of vehicles, said the Swiss group in a 24 Nov statement.
Due to come online in early 2022, the expansion will offer materials ability to support electrical and electronics applications by enabling the production of components with high temperature resistance, low temperature flexibility and high-level electrical insulation properties.
Characterised by stability across high and low temperature extremes, LSR exhibits reliable mechanical properties over temperatures ranging from -55 ?C to +250 ?C.
Furthermore, liquid silicone parts are hydrophobic, highly resistant to chemicals and have ‘excellent electrical and insulating properties’, making them ideal for electrical components.
LSR, according to the Swiss group, provides ‘very high quality, complex technology and zero waste’, a combination of offerings that support manufacturers’ sustainability goals.
“This transfer of technologies will enable our customers the local-to-local support they require,” said Maurice Senden, business development manager for LSR at Datwyler.
While LSR technology is already available in the Chinese market, Datwyler expects to add value by offering customers access to its advanced material and simulation expertise.
“Working together with automotive OEMs and system suppliers, we are able to select and develop advanced materials that deliver optimal performance,” he added.
China, according to Senden, is "a region of key strategic importance" to Daytwayler customers and is "a driving force" in the move towards new mobility applications.
“As the tide is shifting towards new mobility applications, we are proud to be adding that same level of support and service to emerging technologies,” he concluded.
