Failed tyre reef may be exhumed
A failed artificial reef made from discarded tyres off Fort Lauderdale, Florida, may be dredged up, as part of a gas pipeline deal. The Florida authorities regard the tyre reef as an environmental disaster, but are unwilling to spend the millions of dollars required to recover the old tyres. Now, under a proposed pipeline deal, two companies who wish to lay gas pipelines in the area may be forced to recover the tyres as part of their contract to lay the pipelines.
