EU car registrations climb 2 percent in 2004
Brussels--EU and EFTA registrations of cars grew during 2004. Total registrations of the 15 EU countries reached 14.12 million units, up 2.0 percent, from 13.84 million in 2003. Registrations rose by 7 percent in the three EFTA countries (Iceland, Norway and Sweden). In the new EU countries from te Czech Republic to Slovenia, registrations fell by 40 000 units.
Within the EU15 + EFTA3, the BMW group showed a sales increase of over 12 percent, to 703 000 units, up rom 627 000 a year earlier. Renault saw its registrations decline by 1 percent, to 1.49 million units.
