Kidapawan City, Philippines – The Provincial Government of North Cotabato is holding a regional rubber forum for Central Mindanao, reports the Sun Star. Central to discussions will be perceived cartels allegedly manipulating rubber prices.
An association of farmers in North Cotabato is reported as saying that traders are controlling the movement of prices of processed rubber.
Cotabato governor Emmylou Talinio-Mendoza is quoted as saying that the province wants rubber farmers to have access to buyers that can pay them the right prices for their products.
The government's “vision” for its rubber industry is for North Cotabato to become the number one producer and exporter of natural rubber-based products in Central Mindanao by 2020.
