Cooper Tire names director of modular manufacturing
Findlay, Ohio - Cooper Tire and Rubber has named Jeff Schumaker as director of modular manufacturing.
Schumaker will be responsible for Cooper Tire's continuing pursuit of lean concepts, technology and existing equipment to create manufacturing areas - which may be modules, cells or mini-plants - that can make low-volume, high-complexity products, reserving traditional manufacturing for high-volume runs.
Since joining Cooper in 1988, Schumaker has worked as a development engineer, tyre testing manager and SUV/light truck tyre development manager in Findlay, Ohio; as technical liaison manager in Melksham, UK; and as production planning and business unit manager in Albany, Georgia.
Schumaker earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and master's degrees in manufacturing management and operations management from GMI Engineering and Management Institute, Flint, Michigan. A member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Schumaker wrote a paper, Comparison of Traction Test Methods,†for The Tire Society.
