Continental Matador expanding truck tyre capacity
Puchov, Slovak Republic -- Continental Matador SRO is expanding capacity at its Puchov truck tyre plant, spending $19 million to push output to 2.2 million units annually.
The company, a 76-24 joint venture between Continental AG and Matador AS, is adding a production hall at the factory to accommodate the expanded manufacturing. The company did not disclose the size of the new hall or the timetable for completion.
The expansion is the second since the two firms set up the joint venture in 1999. In 2001-02 capacity was doubled to 1.4 million units and the infrastructure improved in a $100 million investment.
The plant makes tyres under various names, including Barum, Matador, General and Continental.
