Cardinal Health buys Denver Biomedical
McGaw Park, Illinois - Cardinal Health Inc. has purchased Denver Biomedical Inc., a designer and manufacturer of specialised medical products for chronic fluid management in the chest and abdomen.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Golden, Colorado-based Denver Biomedical has 50 employees and markets speciality drainage products globally for hospital and home use, primarily for terminally ill cancer patients.
Denver Biomedical´s products include the Pleurx Pleural Catheter System, the Denver Ascites Shunt and the Denver Pleural Effusion Shunt. Denver Biomedical, founded in 1969, was the first company to receive Federal Drug Administration clearance specifically for an indwelling catheter for drainage of chronic pleural and ascitic fluids, Cardinal said.
"Denver Biomedical´s products are a great fit with our existing business," according to Tom Daulton, Cardinal Health vice president and general manager, special procedures. "These products significantly enhance patient quality of life and reduce hospital costs."
Cardinal Health manufactures a full range of devices used in biopsy and spine procedures along with numerous other medical goods.
