Harvey Firestone, John Boyd Dunlop enter Inventors' Hall of fame
Akron, Ohio -Â It may have taken over 100 years; it may have been the most low-key announcement ever, but Harvey Firestone and John Boyd Dunlop have made it into the US National Inventors' Hall of Fame.
There is no citation, no biography, just the bald note that Firestone invented the pneumatic rubber tyre. John Boyd Dunlop makes it onto the same list, with the same lack of fanfare. Dunlop is credited with inventing the pneumatic tyre, for cycles. Just above Dunlop is Gottlieb Daimler, who developed the diesel engine.
All three, together with another 50 or so inventors were, apparently, recognised at a ceremony on 5 May. It took a press release from Bridgestone Firestone, before anyone took notice.
