DPE launches Viton copolymer for injection moulders
Nuremberg, Germany - DuPont Performance Elastomers has launched a new grade of Viton copolymers aimed specifically at the injection moulding community.
The new grade, called Viton EF, permits faster injection times and better flow in multi-cavity moulds, said the company.
Fabio Costanzi, techncal director of Marconi Special Compounds, an Italian specialist compounder, confirmed the claims, saying the new material will help moulders of O-rings. He said cycle times can be reduced, and as moulders get to understand the material, it is likely that they will use moulds with more cavities, but may choose to run slightly slower cycle times, to maintain control of the process. Costanzi added that the material is more scorch-safe than older Viton grades and because it flows better, allows compounders to reduce the amount of plasticizer to 1 or 0.5 phr from 2 phr. This improves compression set performance, he added.
