ERJ staff report (BC)
Chennai – Michelin’s largest tire manufacturing facility at Thiruvallur, India, is all set to "begin operation in the weeks to come", the Economic Times reports the French Ambassador to India Francois Richier as having said on 20 September.
Asked when the 117 hectare plant, to employ 1500 people, was set to be inaugurated he said: "There is no precise date at the moment. But, it is going to start operating in the weeks to come. We are currently [in talks with] the Government of Tamil Nadu. It is coming soon".
The project experienced delays due to land acquisition problems and protests from people living in nearby villages.
