Avon Automotive to close mouldings factory in Manton, Ohio - reports
Manton, Ohio -Â Avon Automotive is closing its rubber mouldings factory in Manton, Ohio, with the loss of about 100 jobs, according to multiple press reports in the US.
The factory currently employs around 150 people and has been open since the 1970s. It makes rubber mouldings mainly for Ford and Chrysler vehicles. Production of these products will be transferred to Mexico, while limited production of non-automotive components will be transferred to Avon Automtive's factory in Cadillac, a few miles away. The company is reported have said production will end at manton by the middle of the year.
Lee Richards, president and CEO of Avon Automotive was quoted as saying, “Going back to August, we saw a major reduction in volume. The business has been losing money to the point where it's no longer viable.â€
The Cadillac plant makes mainly hoses and hose assemblies for automotive customers.
In August 2006, Avon Rubber plc based in the UK, sold its automotive operations to a group of managers backed by private equity from Red Diamond Capital. That company now trades as Avon Automotive.
