Asahi Kasei to add capacity for S-SBR in Japan
Tokyo, Japan - Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corp. is increasing annual capacity for solution-polymerised styrene-butadiene rubber (S-SBR) by 10 000 tonnes to 62 000 tonnes at its Oita, Japan plant.
The facility, which belongs to its subsidiary Japan Elastomer Co., Ltd., is scheduled to start-up in April 2008 and will produce “new modified synthetic rubber for high-performance fuel-efficient tyres,†which went on sale in April 2007, said the company in a 26 June statement.
The business has been marked for expansion through strategic investment in the Asahi Kasei Group's Growth Action - 2010 medium-term, business initiative, with a focus on both increasing production capacity and advancing technological development.
