Lockout continues at Indian tyre plant
ERJ staff report (TB)
Gurgaon, India -- The lockout at PTL Enterprises' tyre plant in Kalamassery, India, which supplies exclusively to Apollo Tyres Ltd., is continuing despite negotiations between unions, management and government officials.
Apollo Tyres said the unions were presented with 12 items needed for the survival of the plant and accepted just three of them. The issues concern manufacturing practices and the need to expand and modernise the operation to become more efficient.
The lockout began Dec. 6. The factory employs 1,100, and produces 90 tons of bias, light truck, truck and farm tires daily, primarily for export, Apollo Tyres said.
