Sumitomo Rubber's Q1 sales down 24 percent; falls into red

Kobe, Japan -- Sumitomo Rubber reported a 24 percent fall in sales to yen 108 930 million (euro 821 million) in the three months to March 2009 from yen 143 270 million. The company reported an operating loss of yen 5550 million (euro 41.8 million) and a net loss for the period of yen 7570 million.
The company said it expects to report an operating loss of yen 10 000 million for the six months to June 2009, but expects an operating profit of yen 14 000 million for the full year to December 2009
In terms of net profits, however, the company expects to be inthe red for the full year.
