Goodyear wins military vehicle supply contract
ERJ staff report (TB)
Akron, Ohio -- Goodyear has been selected by BAE Tactical Vehicle Systems as the OE supplier for its FMTV (Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles) transport vehicle, which is used by the US Army.
Under the contract, Goodyear will supply about 100 000 tyres through 2010 to be used on vehicles with capacity ranging from 2.5 to 10 tons. The tyre maker will manufacture the tyres at its Danville, Virginia, plant.
The FMTV, which is based on a common cab, chassis and internal components, is produced in 16 variations that differ by payload and mission requirements. The vehicles are used for line haul, local haul and unit re-supply among other applications.
Kris Fettig, Goodyear military OE account executive, said BAE's decision to use Goodyear tyres “signifies an important step forward in Goodyear's working relationship with one of the world's premier providers of military vehicles.â€
