Diehl Elastomer goes to private equity company

Munih, Germany -- Munich-based Venture capital company mutares AG,has bought Diehl Elastomertechnik GmbH and its subsidiaries from the family-owned Diehl Group, Nürnberg. Diehl Elastomer designs, manufactures and distributes rubber components mainly for the automotive industry and occupies 200 employees at locations in Germany, Portugal and Slovakia. With this transaction the Diehl Group intends to focus more on its core business.
Mutares specialises in acquiring companies in special situations, e.g. owner or management succession, turn-around, re-funding and suchlike.
Diehl Elastomertechnik at Blankenheim, Germany is the main development centre. One manufacturing site is based in Porto, Portugal, which is a former joint-venture between Diehl Flensburg in Germany and Fapobol in Portugal. It was established as part of a local supply base for the then ford/Volkswagen factory at Palmela near Lisbon with rubber moulded parts from local manufacturers. the other manufacturing unit is in Belusa, Slovakia, called Diehl Elastomer Slovakia, which primarily supplies the Eastern-European market.
The sale does not include Diehl Remscheid, the worldwide leading manufacturer of system tracks for tanks and armoured vehicles.
