Momentive to boost silicone capacity, line

Albany, new York -- Momentive Performance Materials said it will double the capacity to produce silicone elastomers at a plant in Shanghai by the end of the year, and will introduce its line of Silpus silicone elastomers.

The Silpus line primarily will be produced Leverkusen, Germany; Shanghai; and Ohta, Japan. It will consist of three platforms, each designed to meet the needs of different applications, and will be available in different hardnesses, Momentive said.

The platforms will include:

Silpus MP multipurpose silicone elastomers, designed to provide customers with flexibility to more easily compound or blend elastomers to achieve the desired properties for applications and processing equipment;

Silpus EX silicone elastomers, designed to help enhance green strength and extrusion performance for hose, tubing and profiles, and;

Silpus HS, designed for high performance applications and can help provide higher strength and enhance mechanical properties.
