Tyre markets continue recovery - Pirelli

Milan, Italy - Pirelli has updated its website with data on tyre markets for the month of April.

Pirelli reports strong recovery in European truck sales, with replacement sales up by 33 percent in the year to date and by 20 percent in the one-month figures. OE sales in Europe are also recovering strongly with sales for the year to date up by 13 percent, helped by a remarkable 60 percent growth in the one-month figures.

In the car and light truck segment, Pirelli said European replacement sales increased by 11 percent in the year to date and 14 percent in April. The company said OE data is not yet available.

In the NAFTA region, truck sales also grew strongly with replacement sales up by 22 percent in the year to date and by 33 percent in April alone. OE sales showed 20 percent growth in the year to date and 40 percent growth in the month of April.

Consumer tyres also showed strong growth, with replacement sales up by 9 percent in the year to date and by 13 percent in April. OE sales jumped by 64 percent in the first four months and by 48 percent in April.

In South America (Mercosur) Truck tyre replacement sales were up by 26 percent in the first four months and 24 percent in the month of April. The OE business saw sales up by 64 percent in the year to date and by 62 percent in April

The consumer tyre segment also saw strong growth in Mercosur, with replacement sales up by 25 percent in the first four months and by 23 percent in April. OE sales were up by 22 percent in the year to date and by 15 percent in April alone.

Japanese truck tyre replacement sales grew by 20 percent in the year to date and by 23 percent in April. The company said OE data is not yet available. Replacement sales in the car tyre segment were up by 9 percent in the year to date and by 11 percent in April alone.
