Meeting on future of NR scheduled for October in Montpelier

Montpelier, France -- The EU-Pearls project (EU-based Production and Exploitation of Alternative Rubber and Latex Sources) is holding a meeting titled, 'the future of Natural rubber' on 14, 15 October. The venue is the Agropolis International, Montpellier, France.
The meeting will address issues such as South American Leaf Blight (SALB) and its potential impact in South-east Asia; the potential impact of climate change on rubber yields and output; the supply-demand balance in the light of demand growth in Asia and South America and also what happens if no strategic decisinos are made. A session is devoted to the bio-synthesis of isoprene species.
The organisers say, "The meeting is an excellent opportunity for research organizations and industry to report, discuss and obtain information on alternative sources of natural rubber, with themes including germplasm collection, breeding, biochemistry and genetics of rubber biosynthesis, agronomy, processing, product development, by-products, socioeconomic aspects (policies, consequences for labor market, rural areas, factors affecting the introduction and market chances of alternative crops)."
