China exported 40 percent more tyres in Jan-Apr 2010
ERJ staff report (DS)
Shanghai, China -- According to data from Chinese Customs, Chinese tyre export volume in the period from January to April, 2010, totalled nearly 1.06 million tons, rising by 40.7 percent on the same period a year ago; the export value amounted to $2.80 billion, growing by 39.3 percent over the same period a year ago.
It appears that the US restrictions on tyres imported from China have not affected Chinese exports. In the four months, China exported 234,800 tonnes of tyres to the US, 1.5 percent more than the same period of 2009; the export value came up to USD 612.50 million, dropping by 4.9 percent.
A report from China Research and Intelligence said Chinese domestic tyre enterprises increased prices in both the domestic market and the export market by around 3 percent -5 percent in comparison with price increases of around 10 percent in international tyre makers.
The report says, "Currently, in Chinese tyre industry, there is acute product structural imbalance, severe homogeneity, insufficient production capacity for new products (e.g. environment-friendly tyres and safety tyres), and blind expansion of low-end products. Moreover, the international trade conflicts will be more frequent in 2010. Besides USA, EU also puts forward environment-protection barrier on imported tyres, while Argentina has implemented anti-dumping measures on Chinese tyres. The trader barriers for Chinese tyres will exist for a long period."
The report is titled, Research Report on Chinese tyre Industry, 2010-2011. The 70-page report was first published in May 2010 and is available for a price of around US$2800, depending on delivery options.
