Conti launches long-distance trailer tyre
ERJ staff report (RD)
Hanover, Germany -- The HTL ECO-PLUS trailer tyre from Continental AG completes the company's new range of tyres for international long-distance transport, a 26 May Conti statement said.
The ECO-PLUS tyre uses a “high-tech casing and tread pattern†specifically configured for long-distance transport, Conti said, adding that its development team has reduced rolling resistance by up to 15 percent by using “a special material compound and elaborate tread design†-- resulting in fuel savings of up to 5 percent, the statement added.
According to Conti, extra wide shoulders and a broad tread between the four straight circumferential grooves compress the tread pattern as far as possible to the inside of the tyre contact surface. “The very narrow grooves are supported by pyramid-shaped inner elements that prevent unwanted proper movement in the tread,†the German tyre maker said.
The trailer tyre is based on a casing structure with four-ply triangular belts, increased air volume and a newly designed steel cord bead, Conti added.
