European tyre sales still on the increase

Milan, Italy - Tyre sales in Europe continue to increase, according to data for May 2010 presented on Pirelli's website. The company said truck tyre replacement sales in Europe grew by 29 percent in the first five months of 2010 and by 16 percent in May 2010, compared to May 2009. The company said OE data is not yet available.
In the car and light truck segment, tyres sales in the first five months grew by 10 percent, while sales in May 2010 were 7 percent ahead of May 2009.
Pirelli also published data for the Mercosur region. In trucks, OE sales were ahead by 64 percent in the first five months and by 62 percent in the month of May. Truck replacement sales were ahead by 25 percent in the year to date and by 21 percent in the month of May.
Mercosur's car and light truck segment was also ahead, with sales in the first five months up by 23 percent, and sale sin the month of May 2010 ahead of May 2009 by 11 percent.
