NAFTA OE tyre market surged in May

Milan, Italy - OE sales of car tyres in May surged by 89 percent in the NAFTA region, according to data published by Pirelli. For the first five months, OE sales were up by 69 percent. In the replacement sector, the NAFTA region saw an increase of 11 percent in May and 10 percent in the year to date.
Japanese replacement sales were up by 18 percent in May and by 11 percent in the year to date. Pirelli did not give OE sales data for Japan.
The company published data European OE data, adding to the replacement data published a few days ago. The data appears to show that the OE sales boom is slowing, with sales up by 8 percent in the month of May compared with a 25 percent increase in the year to date.
In the truck segment, Pirelli said European OE sales were ahead by 72 percent in May, while the year to date showed an increase of 22 percent.
In the NAFTA region OE truck sales were ahead by 64 percent in the year to date and by 62 percent in May. Replacement truck sales were up by 25 percent in the year to date and by 21 percent in May.
Japanese replacement truck sales were up by 20 percent in May and 21 percent in the year to date.
