Passat CC uses self-sealing tyre from Conti

Hanover, Germany - The ContiSportContact 3 tyre from Continental AG will be fitted to all new Passat CC vehicles from Volkswagen, an 18 June, a Conti statement said.

Featuring self-sealing ContiSeal technology, the tyre, size 235/40 R 18 95 W XL, is approved for speeds up to 270 km/h, the German tyre maker said.

According to the statement, ContiSeal technology “allows a vehicle to continue traveling despite penetration by nails or screws,” adding that a protective layer on the inside of the tyre's tread immediately seals holes that develop and prevents any air from escaping. “Almost any leak caused by an object of up to five millimeters in diameter can be sealed, meaning that about 85 percent of typical flat tires can be covered,” Conti added.

“Volkswagen is currently equipping all Passat-CC models exclusively with Continental tyres with the seal technology to provide the driver a high level of safety in the case of tire failure,” said Jörg Göner, an automotive engineer at Continental.
