Daetwyler to move automotive components to Ukraine plant
ERJ staff report (DS)
Schattdorf, Switzerland -- Daetwyler Rubber is to move production of automotive component fromSwitzerland to its industrial product plant in Malyn, Ukraine. Recently the plant was certified according to the automotive standard TS 16949:2009.
Until recently, the Daetwyler Rubber plant at Malyn, northwest of Kiev, manufactured products only for the industry sector. Such a location also allows long-term and cost-effective supply of the Eastern Europe, a market that is constantly growing in importance.
The Malyn plant has been producing elastomer parts for industrial customers such as Stihl, VFG, and Sulzer for several years. With its high quality standards in production, it offered an ideal basis for expansion of the product range for automotive customers. But certification according to the industry standards was lacking. So Daetwyler Rubber expanded the processes and infrastructure of the plant and had the plant certified according to the automotive standard TS 16949.
Last year the company's automotive unit decided to intensify focus on Eastern Europe. This required establishing production capacity in the region. At the end of February 2010, therefore, the audit authorities --SQS -- inspected the plantwith support of the quality-management team from Switzerland.
Now, as certification is complete, Daetwyler Rubber plans to relocate production of several products of a current automotive customer from Switzerland to Ukraine. Initial parts have already been produced on site and are in the sampling process. Afterwards, further articles will follow. Daetwyler Rubber also plans to relocate production of products of other customers. Customers have confirmed that they consider the expansion of the Malyn plant into a full-fledged automotive supply supplier a favourable move.
