Yokohama to expand Thailand car tyre plant
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo - The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., is to increase capacity for car and light truck tyres at its plant in Rayong Province, Thailand. The company said Yokohama Tire Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. will add capacity for 1.4 million tyres bringing total capacity to 4 million tyres annually. Yokohama expects to bring the new capacity on stream in April 2011, and it will make an investment of 9.7 billion yen (euro 88 million).
The PC/LT tyre plant began operating with an annual production capacity of 1.4 million tyres. A second-phase expansion project to 2.6 million units/year was delayed until April 2011 due to the financial crisis. As of March 2010, the plant's annual production capacity stands at 1.9 million tyres.
The new announcement is a third phase of expansion and will be brought in at the same time as the delayed second-phase expansion
