ERJ staff report (DS)
Hefei, China -- Continental AG on July 4th, 2010, marked the installation of the first machines for its new passenger car tyre plant in Hefei. The plant is due to make tyres from the beginning of 2011.
In this, the first phase of the project, Conti has created a 70 000m2 plant with, "state of the art machinery for tyre production." The Hefei plant is aiming for an annual production of four million PLT tyres in this first step. In the long run the capacity should be further extended, in order to cope with the dynamic growing market volume, not only in China, but in Asia overall.
The over EUR 185 million investment of Continental's Passenger and Light Truck tyres (PLT) Division is the first one in a manufacturing unit for tyres in China and part of the expansion and growth strategy of Continental in Asia; the investment is also the largest Foreign Direct Investment project of Anhui Province so far.
