Artis adds GC-MS analysis unit
ERJ staff report (DS)
Westbury, UK -- 3 years after launching as an idependant polymer consultancy, ARTIS is now expanding its testing capabilities with the purchase of a Perkin Elmer Clarus 560S GC-MS. (Gas chromatograph - Mass spectrometer)
The GC-MS can be used to analyse a wide variety of materials, and typical applications for the polymer industry include detection of anti-degredants, and plasticers i.e. to establish if phthalates are present in a compound. The GC-MS includes a head space analyser which enables volatiles within a polymer compound to be detected and analysed - for example monomers, residual solvents, and cure-reaction by-products. The use of the GC-MS is not restricted to the analysis of polymers with other widely used applications including analysis of contaminants in soil and water.
Martyn Bennett, Chief Scientist at ARTIS said “the aquisition of the GC-MS boosts our material testing capabilities, and demsonstrates our commitment to serving the polymer industry's needs. After launching the business in 2007 the hard work is now paying off, and further expansion is expected in the future, as the customer base continues to growâ€.
