Styron to set up HQ in Philadelphia area

Midland, Michigan -- Styron llc said it plans to set up its headquarters/Global Operations Center in the Philadelphia area.
The company -- recently purchased by a private equity company from Dow Chemical Co. -- said it is considering several office locations in the Philadelphia area. Its Global Operations Center will employ 40-50, including executive management, finance and legal, Styron said.
The firm will base its North Americans Operation center in Midland, where several Styron research labs, a paper latex pilot coater and a number of Styron factories are located. The company expects to retain about 180 jobs in Midland, and has leased office space in the downtown area to house business management and functional services jobs, and customer service for North America.
Styron said its investment in the North America Operations Center and other Midland facilities will be up to $13 million over the next five years.
The company makes styrene-butadiene latex and styrene-acrylate latex as well as solution styrene-butadiene, lithium polybutadiene, emulsion styrene-butadiene and nickel polybutadiene. I also produces plastics such as polystyrene, copolymers acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and styrene acrylonitrile, polycarbonate, expandable polystyrene, compounds and blends, and automotive plastics.
