Tyre markets continue to grow

Milan, Italy -- Pirelli has released further detail on the recovery of the global tyre markets.

In the truck sector, Pirelli says the European OE segment increased by 30 percent in the first half of 2010, compared with a year previously. in the month of June, sales rose by 69 percent, matching the 67 percent growth seen over the second quarter. Replacement sales in Europe also continued the trend of the second quarter, with June sales up by 20 percent, second-quarter sales up by 10 percent and first-half sales up by 27 percent.

Elsewhere in the world, OE truck tyre sales for June were up by 62 percent in China; 58 percent in Mercosur and 38 percent in NAFTA. For the first half, sales were up by 85 percent in China; 63 percent in Mercosur and 26 percent in NAFTA

The replacement sector in truck tyres also saw healthy growth, with June sales up by 12 percent in Japan; 12 percent in Mercosur and 11 percent in Nafta. First-half sales were up by 19 percent in Japan; 22 percent in China 23 percent in Mercosur and 20 percent in NAFTA.

In the car and light truck sector, Pirelli said the European OE segment increased by 22 percent in the first half of 2010, compared with a year previously. in the month of June, sales rose by 9 percent, matching the 11 percent growth seen over the second quarter. Replacement sales in Europe also continued the trend of the second quarter, with sales up by a steady 11 percent in June, the and th emost recent three-month and six-month periods.

Elsewhere in the world, OE car tyre sales for June were up by 18 percent in China; 7 percent in Mercosur and a phenomenal 93 percent in NAFTA. For the first half, sales were up by 46 percent in China; 17 percent in Mercosur and 73 percent in NAFTA

The replacement sector in car tyres also saw healthy growth, with June sales up by 9 percent in Japan; 10 percent in Mercosur but no growth was seen in NAFTA. First-half sales were up by 11 percent in Japan; 38 percent in China 20 percent in Mercosur and 8 percent in NAFTA.
