Aditya Birla Nuvo sees carbon black sales rise

Mumbai, India -- Aditya Birla Nuvo said sales of carbon black increased in the three months to June 2010 to Rs 3240 million (euro 53.7 million), from Rs 2460 million a year previously. Earnings (EBITDA) in the carbon black activity increased to Rs 580 million (euro 9.6 million), up from Rs 310 million a year earlier.
Aditya Birla said volumes were up slightly, to 57 721 metric tonnes, up from 56 167 tonnes in the quarter.
The company said it brought on stream a further 85 000 tonnes of capacity in May 2010 at Patalganga, and this is currently under stabilisation. This unit brings total capacity to 315 000 tonne/year. The company expects to add a further 85 kt/year at the Patalganga unit with fiurther capacity added in southern India
