Bridgestone joins the strongly improved results chorus

Tokyo -- Bridgestone Corp. has sales up by 15 perent for the six months ended 30 June 2010. The company reversed a substantial loss recorded a year previously.
in the six months, Bridgestone reported net sales of yen 1386 billion (euro 12 218 million), up from yen 1205 billion a year ago. Operating income was yen 78.4 billion in the period, compared with a loss of yen 20 billion a year ago.
The company said the tyre and rubber industry was, "plagued by rising prices for raw materials."
In the tyre segment, sales for the six months rose to yen 1147 billion, from yen 990.4 billion, while the operating income was yen 70.6 billion, reversing the loss of yen 15.2 billion reported a year earlier.
Diversified products recorded sales of yen 1386 billion, up 16 percent from yen 1205 billion. The division reported operating profits of yen 7800 million , again, reversing a loss of yen 4700 million.
The company said unit sales of tyres in Japan and elsewhere recovered strongly in the first half as demand grew substantially from the depressed levels of 2009.
