Rapra and Smithers Rapra - an explanation
Duesseldorf, Germany -- While Smithers Scientific acquired the assets of Rapra Technology Ltd in April 2006, the original Rapra organisation has been co-existing on the old Shawbury site. Smithers Rapra continues to operate from the Shawbury site as part of the Smithers Scientific organisation, carrying out commercial, contract work for its clients.
On the other hand, Rapra Ltd has developed as a consortium of Small-Medium Enterprises, which co-operate as a group in research projects and other joint activities. Rapra Ltd buys in research and other services from various providers, one of which is Smithers Rapra.
Up to now, Rapra Ltd has operated from the same offices as Smithers Rapra and, according to operations director, global, Steve Shaw, speaking at the K Show, this has led to confusion in the market place.
Shaw said Rapra's membership has increased since the buyout from a low of around 70 members to the current figure of 170 companies.
