Lanxess to expand Levapren unit
Duesseldorf, Germany -- Lanxess AG is to expand its capcity for Levapren ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer. The company will increase annual capacity to 15 kt, bringing the capacity of the unit in Dormagen to its maximum infrastructure limit.
The company last expanded the unit in 2008. Lanxess said demand growth has been driven by regulations in the wire and cable industry. The material is highly fillable, which permits high loadings of fire retardents.
Lanxess said that even with the latest expansion, the plant is likely to be full around 2014, and the company will consider buislding a new plant in a diffferent part of te world to supply the expected demand growth.
